The New Mexico State University Art Museum will bring together three exhibitions during a closing reception later this month, offering visitors an opportunity to explore works from the university’s Lannan Art Collection alongside exhibitions featuring contemporary and student-curated perspectives.

The reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, marking the approaching close of the museum’s summer exhibitions Mapping Spaces: Selections from the Lannan Art Collection at NMSU and Homage to Then/Small Worlds.
The evening will also coincide with Art History: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, an exhibition curated by current and recently graduated NMSU students.
Mapping Spaces
Mapping Spaces: Selections from the Lannan Art Collection at NMSU is currently on display in the museum’s Contemporary Art Gallery.
The exhibition will remain available beyond the closing reception, with its run continuing through Sept. 5.
Homage to Then/Small Worlds
Visitors can also explore Homage to Then/Small Worlds in the Mullennix Bridge Gallery.
That exhibition will remain on display through Sept. 12, giving visitors additional time to see the works following the August reception.
Students Revisit Art History
The reception will also be held in conjunction with Art History: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, curated by current and recently graduated NMSU students.

The exhibition asks viewers to consider how artists continually revisit ideas, imagery and themes from earlier periods, examining the ways elements of art history are recycled and reinterpreted within contemporary work.
Together, the exhibitions provide several perspectives on how art engages with place, scale and the artistic traditions that came before it.
The closing reception for the summer exhibitions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.
