Visit Las Cruces Launches Self-Guided Tour of Local Film Locations

Las Cruces added a new way for residents and visitors to explore the area’s growing connection to film Monday evening with the launch of a self-guided tour highlighting locations featured on screen.

Among the local leaders attending Monday’s event were CMI professor and filmmaker Ross Marks (left), Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez (top right), and Film Las Cruces President and New Mexico State Sen. Jeff Steinborn (bottom right).

Visit Las Cruces, in collaboration with Film Las Cruces, launched the new film tour during an event held Aug. 10 at the Rio Grande Theatre in downtown Las Cruces.

Attendees had an opportunity to explore the theatre’s gallery, where film posters, props and information about the new tour were on display.

Las Cruces Through a Filmmaker’s Lens

The self-guided tour is built around a brochure directing participants to film locations in and around Las Cruces.

The locations represent the area’s appearances in productions ranging from independent films to major motion pictures, giving participants an opportunity to explore the community from a filmmaker’s perspective.

The brochure is available in print and online through Visit Las Cruces.

Monday’s launch brought together representatives from the city’s tourism, film and government communities.

Visit Las Cruces Executive Director Rochelle Miller-Hernandez, Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, Las Cruces International Film Festival Executive Director Ross Marks and Film Las Cruces President Jeff Steinborn were among the community leaders scheduled to speak or attend the event.

The launch adds the self-guided film tour to the ways visitors and residents can explore Las Cruces, this time by connecting familiar places around the community with the productions that have used southern New Mexico as their backdrop.
