Wanted Texas Absconder Apprehended in Las Cruces

Throughout the day, NMSP personnel conducted investigative efforts to locate Stewart and his vehicle.

On August 13, 2026, New Mexico State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) agents and Las Cruces Uniform Bureau officers apprehended Bryan Stewart, 42, a wanted Texas absconder.

NMSP received information from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office that Stewart was wanted for a probation violation stemming from underlying charges of improper relationship between an educator and a student and was believed to be traveling into New Mexico.

Throughout the day, NMSP personnel conducted investigative efforts to locate Stewart and his vehicle. An off-duty NMSP FAU supervisor ultimately spotted Stewart’s vehicle at a local Walmart, calling for additional resources.

NMSP FAU agents, with assistance from Deputy U.S. Marshals, located Stewart as a nearby residence and safely apprehended Stewart without incident.

Stewart was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
