Parents and caregivers in Las Cruces will have an opportunity to have their children’s car seats checked for proper installation during a free Car Seat Fitting Station scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3.
The clinic will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at 425 W. Boutz Road in Las Cruces and is available by appointment.
Trained Child Passenger Safety Technicians will work with families to check the proper use and installation of their child’s car seat and provide guidance on making adjustments when necessary.
The Las Cruces event is part of a series of car seat safety clinics conducted across New Mexico through Safer New Mexico. NMDOT recently hosted a training event at its General Office where 20 people were certified to conduct car seat installation inspections, followed by a clinic on the campus.

What If a Car Seat Needs to Be Replaced?
During the Las Cruces clinic, a senior technician may provide an appropriate replacement if a child’s existing car seat has been recalled, has been involved in a crash or has been outgrown.
Replacement seats are available for a $35 fee, and the child must be present to qualify for a replacement.
The safety inspection and fitting appointment itself is free.
As of the event listing provided, nine appointment slots remained available, with appointments scheduled in 30-minute increments between 3 and 5:30 p.m.
Families interested in attending can find the Las Cruces fitting station and make an appointment through the Safer New Mexico event calendar.
