The Hatch Chile Festival returns to the Hatch Valley Sept. 5–6, continuing a Labor Day weekend tradition that began with a small gathering of local farmers more than five decades ago.
The 54th annual festival will celebrate the chile harvest and the agricultural heritage of the Hatch Valley with chile roasting, live music, a parade, local vendors, family activities and other festivities.
Organizers expect the celebration to again draw residents and visitors to Hatch, where the annual festival has grown from its beginnings in 1971 to an event attracting more than 30,000 visitors each Labor Day weekend.
County Recognizes Hatch Tradition
Ahead of this year’s festival, the Doña Ana County Board of County Commissioners formally recognized the event and its contributions to the county’s culture, agriculture, economy and community.
The proclamation traces the festival to local farmers celebrating the annual chile harvest and recognizes generations of farmers and agricultural workers who helped establish Hatch chile as part of the region’s identity.
During the presentation, members of the Hatch Chile Festival Committee invited the public to this year’s celebration and noted that its theme is “Rooted in Tradition.”
The County proclamation also recognized the festival’s role in supporting local farmers, businesses and community organizations while introducing visitors to the traditions and hospitality of the Hatch Valley.
The Hatch Chile Festival will be held Sept. 5 and 6 in Hatch.
