Celebrating Detective Bardwell’s Retirement After 22 Years

Bardwell began his career on patrol, where he served for five years before moving into Criminal Investigations.

After 22 years of service with the Las Cruces Police Department, Detective Ricky Bardwell is officially closing out one chapter and beginning a well-earned new one.

Bardwell began his career on patrol, where he served for five years before moving into Criminal Investigations. He would go on to spend the majority of his career in CID, first as a Domestic Violence Officer, then as a Crimes Against Children Detective, and for the past 10 years as LCPD’s Domestic Violence Detective.

Domestic violence investigations became more than an assignment for him. It was work he was deeply passionate about, and he hopes to continue advocating for domestic violence awareness in whatever comes next.

For now, though, retirement means slowing down a little. Bardwell plans to spend plenty of time with his family, tackle some projects around the house, hit the golf course and pickleball court, and enjoy as many beach vacations and concerts as he can fit in.
