Labor Day 2026: Open and Closed Services in Our Broader Community

Emergency services will remain operational throughout the holiday, while some recreational, solid waste, health and online services will remain available.

Labor Day will bring widespread government office closures across Las Cruces, Doña Ana County, Sunland Park and the state Monday, Sept. 7, with regular business hours generally resuming Tuesday. Emergency services will remain operational throughout the holiday, while some recreational, solid waste, health and online services will remain available. Here’s what will be open and closed across our broader community.

City of Las Cruces Labor Day Schedule 

In observance of Labor Day, most City of Las Cruces offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. However, all emergency services, including police and fire, will operate as usual.

City offices and facilities closed on Labor Day include:

  • City Hall
  • Castaneda Service Center (Parks & Recreation Administration Offices)
  • Las Cruces Utilities Administration Offices
  • A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center
  • Youth Development & Diversion Learning Center
  • Las Cruces Museum System, including Branigan Cultural Center, the Museum of Art, Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum
  • Las Cruces Public Libraries, including Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, branch libraries at Munson Center and Sage Café
  • Rio Grande Theatre
  • All Roadrunner Transit operations and facilities
  • All Senior Programs facilities and services
  • South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices
  • Foothills Landfill will be closed on Labor Day, September 7, 2026, and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
  • Visit Las Cruces

Operating, or open, with hours, includes:

  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center Gym Open 1 – 5 p.m. 
  • Residential and Commercial collections will run as normal on September 7, 2026
  • South Central Solid Waste Residential and Commercial Recycle Operations will run on regular schedule on September 7, 2026. 
  • Amador Transfer Station, Corralitos Landfill, County Collection Sites and Sunland Park curbside solid waste processes will all be operating on regular hours.
  • Laabs Outdoor Pool – Session I: noon to 3 p.m. Session II 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • East Mesa Bataan Memorial Outdoor Pool – Session I: noon to 3 p.m. Session II 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Regional Aquatic Center Open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Las Cruces Natatorium Open 6 – 11 a.m.

County Offices To Close For Labor Day Holiday

Doña Ana County administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Offices will reopen for regular business hours at 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 8.

First responders and law enforcement will not be affected by this closure. However, administrative offices for the Sheriff’s Office, Detention Center and Fire Rescue will also be closed.

During the closure, residents may access many County services and information online at http://www.DonaAna.gov.

City of Sunland Park offices are closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. Emergency services stay fully operational, and you can still make payments and submit service requests online or on the Sunland Park Connect app. Regular hours resume Tuesday, September 8.

Las oficinas de la Ciudad de Sunland Park estarán cerradas el lunes 7 de septiembre por el Día del Trabajo. Los servicios de emergencia seguirán operando con normalidad, y usted puede hacer pagos y enviar solicitudes de servicio en línea o por la aplicación Sunland Park Connect. El horario regular se reanuda el martes 8 de septiembre.


Public health offices closed for Labor Day

NMDOH Helpline available during the holiday

SANTA FE – State public health offices and administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

All New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) offices will reopen as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, September 8.

The NMDOH Helpline, 1-833-SWNURSE (1-833-796-8773) will be available on Labor Day during regular business hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can also text 66364 (NMDOH). The Helpline is staffed by nurses available to speak in English and Spanish for health questions, healthcare connections and provider support.

The NMDOH Helpline can also help assure residents’ vaccination records are up to date and assist with vaccine scheduling for both adults and children.
