Mutual Aid Brings Doña Ana Fire Rescue Across State Line for Canutillo Fire

County crews assisted the West Valley Fire Department, which provides fire and emergency services to Canutillo, Vinton and Anthony, Texas.

Doña Ana Fire Rescue crews crossed the state line Friday morning to assist firefighters responding to a structure fire in Canutillo, Texas.

County crews assisted the West Valley Fire Department, which provides fire and emergency services to Canutillo, Vinton and Anthony, Texas. Sunland Park firefighters also reportedly assisted with the response.

The response is an example of mutual aid between neighboring fire departments, allowing agencies to provide personnel and equipment across jurisdictional boundaries when additional resources are needed.

West Valley is among the departments included in Doña Ana County’s automatic and mutual-aid arrangements, extending regional firefighting cooperation across the New Mexico-Texas state line.

The Friday morning fire occurred on Gardner Road near Grace Gardens and involved a small structure behind a residence. Crews were able to contain the fire without it spreading to nearby homes.

Doña Ana County reported no injuries from the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
