A Small Passenger for Some of Las Cruces Fire Department’s Toughest Calls

Moose Lodge 2081 recently donated a supply of Tommy Moose stuffed animals for firefighters to give to children encountered during traumatic or frightening emergency calls.

Some of the newest equipment at Las Cruces Fire Department’s Station 1 is soft, furry and intended to be hugged.

Moose Lodge 2081 recently donated a supply of Tommy Moose stuffed animals for firefighters to give to children encountered during traumatic or frightening emergency calls.

For a child, an emergency involving an accident, fire, injury or family member can mean suddenly being surrounded by unfamiliar people, vehicles, equipment, lights and noise. The stuffed animals give firefighters something simple they can place directly into a child’s hands during those moments.

The Tommy Moose program is designed around that purpose — providing children experiencing trauma with something comforting and familiar while emergency responders handle what is happening around them.

The donated animals will now accompany Station 1 firefighters until they’re needed.
