“Here to Stay”: Southern New Mexico Pride Returns to Downtown Las Cruces Oct. 3

Southern New Mexico Pride traces its beginnings to 1990 and has since developed into a volunteer-run organization that holds events and works with community groups throughout the year.

Southern New Mexico Pride will return to downtown Las Cruces Oct. 3 with an afternoon parade followed by five hours of activities at the Plaza de Las Cruces.

The fourth annual Las Cruces Pride Parade begins at 4 p.m., with community organizations, businesses, performers and other participants traveling through downtown. Pride on the Plaza follows from 5 to 10 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Here to Stay,” which organizers describe as a reference to the history and continuing presence of LGBTQ+ people and their families, businesses and organizations in Southern New Mexico.

That history predates the current downtown celebration. Southern New Mexico Pride traces its beginnings to 1990 and has since developed into a volunteer-run organization that holds events and works with community groups throughout the year.

“FYI+ is excited to present the Fourth Annual Las Cruces Pride Parade, as now is a pivotal time to promote and support diversity, especially to be a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community,” said Jeanne Resendez, director of Business Development & Communications for FYI+. “This year, we want the parade to be seen as more than an event. We are representing a movement; one that is ‘Here to Stay.’”

FYI+ is presenting the parade in partnership with Visit Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico Pride.

Community organizations, businesses and other groups can register to participate in the parade, while Southern New Mexico Pride is also seeking volunteers for the event. Organizers are offering an optional VIP experience for Pride on the Plaza for the first time this year.
