State to host virtual information session on federal Medicaid changes September 23

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) will host a free, virtual information session on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from noon to 1:30 p.m. MST to help New Mexicans understand new federal Medicaid requirements. 

The HCA will explain the new work or activity rules which start Jan. 1, 2027 for most adults ages 19-64. The informational session will explain who must meet them and who may be exempt. The session will also cover:  

1. More frequent Medicaid renewals: Medicaid members subject to the work or activity rule may need to renew every six months instead of every 12 months. 
2. Changes in Medicaid eligibility for some lawfully present immigrants. 
3. New limits on retroactive coverage (ability to pay past medical bills) for new Medicaid applicants. 
4. Where to find job or volunteering opportunities to meet the new requirements. 

Attendees will learn what Medicaid members can to keep their benefits, and how advocates can help spread the word. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
