Drivers across Las Cruces and southern New Mexico should prepare for new construction beginning this week at Spruce Avenue and Triviz Drive, chip-seal work on several city streets and continuing highway projects across the region.
After many months of asking for rain it sure did show up this week across the state. Photos from NMDOT Districts One, Five and Six showing the water and mud our Patrols have been dealing with for the past few day. Sometimes the water doesn’t look very deep but it can and does washout under the road and can cause more problems. Don’t drive through the water. A crew will be there soon to clear the road and get you back on your journey as quickly as possible. (Photos Courtesy NMDOT via Facebook)
A full nighttime closure of I-10 near Artcraft is also scheduled Thursday, while a major NMDOT project in Chaparral is scheduled to resume Sept. 28.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation had not released its usual weekly District One Traffic Report for Sept. 21–28 as of publication. Continuing NMDOT projects included below are carried forward from the department’s Sept. 13–20 report and may be subject to change.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds, obey posted signs and use caution around construction personnel and heavy equipment.

NMDOT District One crews continue removing the old guardrail, building the pads and placing concrete wall barrier along the interstate, designed to meet current interstate safety standards. Highway guardrails are critical safety barriers designed to prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway, reduce crash severity, and protect drivers and passengers. Please use caution when traveling through the work zone, obey reduced speed limits, and remain alert for workers and stationary equipment within the lane closures. Help Doña Ana County Identify Problem Roads
Doña Ana County is asking residents to identify locations where flooding, extreme weather and other hazards affect roads and reliable access as part of its new Route Ready road resilience project.
Residents can use an interactive map to identify roadway hazards or complete a short survey describing problems with access and reliability.
The public engagement period remains open through Nov. 1.
The federally funded project will combine public input with technical analysis to identify vulnerabilities in the county road network and help guide future transportation projects, planning and funding decisions.
