Las Cruces Community Recreation will offer a six-week series of free guided hikes this fall, with outings scheduled every Thursday and Saturday from Oct. 15 through Nov. 21.
The 2026 Fall Hiking Series includes six area trails ranging from 1.5 to 3.4 miles. Each week’s trail will be offered twice, giving participants a choice between a Thursday or Saturday hike.
All hikes begin at 7:30 a.m. Participation is free, with an optional $5 transportation fee for hikers who want a ride from the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., to the trail and back.
The schedule includes:
- Oct. 15 and 17: Picacho Peak Mountain Trail — 1.5 miles
- Oct. 22 and 24: Dripping Springs Trail — 3 miles
- Oct. 29 and 31: Soledad Loop Trail — 3.4 miles
- Nov. 5 and 7: Veterans Park Dam Trail — 2.6 miles
- Nov. 12 and 14: La Cueva Loop Trail — 2.9 miles
- Nov. 19 and 21: Fillmore Canyon Trail — 2.1 miles
The series is open to hikers of all skill levels. Participants should bring water, sturdy footwear and sun protection.
Registration is required by the day before each hike. Participants can register through the Adult & Family Programs section at the City’s recreation website or in person at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center.
