Las Cruces officials joined Doña Ana County representatives in presenting local development projects and challenges to the New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee, including a closer look at the city’s approach to housing and homelessness.
Mayor Eric Enriquez and City Manager Ikani Taumoepeau participated in the presentation, highlighting development opportunities and recent projects involving housing, public safety and parks.
A separate portion of the presentation focused specifically on what the City described as the “Las Cruces Model” for using public-private partnerships to address housing and homelessness.
Housing across the continuum
Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization Administrator Natalie Green was joined by Mesilla Valley Community of Hope Executive Director Nicole Martinez and Spartan Construction Project Manager Orrey Allen for the housing presentation.
The group discussed partnerships intended to address housing needs at different stages, including homelessness response, affordable housing and permanent supportive housing.
Among the projects highlighted was the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope campus, along with City investments in affordable housing.
Officials also discussed Amador Crossing, a 50-unit permanent supportive housing development currently under construction.
The City presented the projects as examples of how partnerships among local government, nonprofit organizations and private-sector participants are being used to address housing needs in Las Cruces.
City and County officials also discussed upcoming challenges facing the area as part of their presentation to the Legislative Finance Committee.
