The New Mexico National Guard joined veterans, service members and community partners for Military & Veterans Day at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque, Sept. 15, 2026.
Maj. Gen. Miguel Aguilar, adjutant general of New Mexico, addressed attendees at the Pavilion Stage, recognizing service members from every branch and component, military families and Gold Star Mothers.
“While our branches and components may differ, we are all united by a shared history and a single oath,” Aguilar said.
That oath took center stage during the ceremony as members of the New Mexico Army National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program swore their oaths of enlistment, administered by Capt. Zachary Jessee.
Aguilar also emphasized that service continues long after a military career ends.
“We want you to know that your service matters,” Aguilar said.
The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services, represented by Cabinet Secretary Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Jamison Herrera, connected veterans and their families with information about state and federal benefits. Herrera served more than 35 years in the NMNG before retiring as its deputy adjutant general and land component commander.
Throughout the day, New Mexico Army and Air National Guard recruiters staffed booths along Main Street, connecting with fairgoers and sharing opportunities to serve.
