MESILLA – The Mesilla Marshals Office is warning residents about a recent increase in gift card scams reaching people through email, text messages, phone calls and physical mail.
The scams include unsolicited messages telling recipients they are eligible to receive prizes, including cash, vehicles or other items.

The Marshals Office said those communications are fraudulent and advised residents not to engage with the sender or provide money in response.
Residents who receive a suspicious message and are uncertain whether it is legitimate can contact the Mesilla Marshals Office for assistance before responding or sending money.
Questions can also be directed to the department’s Criminal Investigations Division at dannyg@mesillanm.gov.
