Heavy rain and flooding will continue to disrupt schools across southern Doña Ana County Wednesday, with Hatch Valley Public Schools canceling classes for the day and Gadsden Independent School District again delaying the start of school by two hours.

Hatch Valley Public Schools Superintendent Fred Montalvo announced the cancellation Tuesday night, citing impassable roads, flooding and limited transportation affecting district families.
The district said canceling classes Wednesday, Sept. 30, will keep students off the roads while allowing flooded and muddy roads additional time to dry.
The cancellation follows Tuesday evening’s flood emergency across the Hatch Valley, during which Doña Ana County issued evacuation instructions for Hatch and several surrounding communities.

Gadsden Delays Start by Two Hours
Gadsden Independent School District will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday for the second consecutive day.
The district said continued heavy rain had worsened conditions in areas already affected by flooding and road damage. The additional two hours will allow district teams to assess roads before students, staff and school buses begin traveling.
All schools and staff will begin two hours later than their normal starting times, and bus routes will run two hours later.
Regular afternoon dismissal times are expected, and after-school activities are scheduled to proceed normally.
Pre-K Schedule Changes
Gadsden ISD announced additional changes for Pre-K families Wednesday.
No bus transportation will be provided to school, and morning classes for 3-year-old students are canceled.
Afternoon buses will be available to take students home.
Superintendent Nubia Tarazona said families will be notified Wednesday morning through ParentSquare, the district website and its Facebook page if conditions require additional changes.
Both districts urged families to exercise caution around flooded roads. Gadsden ISD specifically warned motorists not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
