Carver Road reopened Thursday afternoon after Doña Ana County and City of Las Cruces crews repaired an exposed gas line discovered when a sinkhole developed near the intersection of Carver and San Pablo roads.
Doña Ana County Roads crews responded to the area Wednesday, Sept. 30, after the sinkhole exposed the gas line. County crews worked with the City of Las Cruces to secure the area and determine how the damage would be repaired.
The Las Cruces Gas Department began repairs to the gas line Thursday, while Doña Ana County Roads provided trucks and material to backfill the affected area.

According to the County, the coordinated repair avoided a road closure that otherwise could have continued into the following week.
