During a special meeting, the Board of Commissioners for Doña Ana County unanimously approved a resolution to officially issue a disaster declaration following severe flooding county-wide caused by heavy rainfall Tuesday, September 29.
The declaration, signed on Tuesday, October 6, allows the County to access additional resources and request assistance from the state as needed for both response and recovery. It also enables the county to provide financial assistance to individuals who have been impacted by the heavy rainfall.

“This disaster declaration gives the County additional tools and resources to respond to the needs of our residents,” Board Chair Manuel Sanchez said. “We will continue working together with our community, our partners and the state to ensure residents have the support they need as we continue to move forward.”
Residents can report flood-related damage by visiting DonaAna.gov/DamageAssessment or by calling 211. Those who need assistance completing the damage assessment form can call 211 for support Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“While the immediate safety threat has passed, we know many residents are still feeling the effects of this flooding. Our focus is on helping our communities recover,” Amanda Bowen said. “We are committed to supporting our residents throughout the recovery process, by assessing damages and connecting them to resources and assistance they need.”
For those wishing to support relief efforts, monetary donations are being accepted through the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico’s Greatest Needs Impact Fund.
