He opened the tournament with a 1-up victory over New Mexico’s Johnnie Clark, who entered the event having earned at least a share of the individual championship in each of UNM’s first three tournaments this season.

Chan’s victory contributed to a 3.5-1.5 team win over the Lobos.

Against Houston, Chan defeated Sacha Ruiz 2-up, winning the final two holes to secure his match.

He completed his undefeated tournament with another 2-up victory, this time over NC State’s Xander Goboy. Chan won two of the final three holes, helping the Aggies defeat NC State 4-1 and secure the team championship.

Conference USA recognized Chan’s performance with its weekly men’s golf honor.

The NB3 Matchplay features a round-robin format, with teams competing in individual head-to-head matches. Each match victory earns one point for the team, while a tied match earns half a point.

The tournament, sponsored by Santa Ana Casino Resort, was held Sept. 29-30 and featured men’s teams from NM State, New Mexico, Houston and NC State. Women’s teams from the same schools, except Oklahoma in place of Houston, also competed.

The championship marks NM State’s second title in the event’s first three years.
