Drivers across Las Cruces and southern New Mexico should prepare for new traffic restrictions in Chaparral, continuing construction on I-25 and McNutt Road, and several lane closures affecting travel toward El Paso.
Meanwhile, US 60 between Socorro and Magdalena has reopened to passenger vehicles and approved trucks following flood damage to a bridge, although restrictions remain in place for oversized and overweight commercial vehicles.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds, obey posted signs and use caution around construction personnel and heavy equipment.

October is Pedestrian Safety Month, making it the perfect time to remind everyone—whether behind the wheel or on foot—that safety on our roadways is a shared responsibility.
Every journey begins and ends as a pedestrian, and simple habits save lives.
Together, we can ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.
Let’s make safe choices every mile, every walk, every day.
Las Cruces
Spruce, Telshor and Triviz
Lane closures continue around the Spruce Avenue, Telshor Boulevard and Triviz Drive intersection area.
Closures affect:
- Northbound Triviz Drive, between Spruce Avenue and Redwood Street.
- Westbound Spruce Avenue, between Telshor Boulevard and Wingate Road.
The roadway and intersection improvements are expected to continue through approximately Friday, Oct. 23.
I-25: Las Cruces to Doña Ana
Guardrail replacement and concrete barrier construction continue along I-25 between mile markers 6 and 14.2, from Las Cruces to just north of Doña Ana.
Lane closures and traffic controls remain in place 24 hours a day in both directions while crews remove and replace guardrails and install concrete barriers.
Speed limits are reduced throughout the construction zone.
Contractor working hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Chaparral: NM 213 and NM 404
Reconstruction of NM 213 and NM 404 has resumed, following several postponements to the project’s restart date.
Crews are removing existing pavement markings, installing temporary striping and preparing to shift traffic on NM 213 to the east.
As construction progresses, one lane in each direction will remain open using the existing northbound lanes of NM 213, allowing crews to work in the southbound lane and shoulder and install temporary concrete barriers.
The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph throughout the construction zone.
Motorists should expect delays and allow additional travel time.
Regular construction hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, although extended hours and weekend work are possible.
Additional project information is available from NMDOT’s NM 213 interchange project page.
Anthony: NM 184/Country Club Road
NMDOT maintenance crews will perform crack-sealing work along NM 184/Country Club Road near Anthony, with lane restrictions as needed in both directions.
Work is scheduled Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m., with restrictions lifted at the end of each workday.
Sunland Park and Santa Teresa
NM 273/McNutt Road
Roadway rehabilitation continues along NM 273/McNutt Road, affecting both directions from the Texas state line to mile marker 6, approximately one mile south of Santa Teresa.
Speed limits are reduced throughout the construction area.
Contractor working hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Deming to Hatch
NM 26
Drivers should expect daytime lane closures and pilot-car operations in both directions along NM 26 from US 180 near Deming toward mile marker 46 in Hatch.
Crews are performing crack sealing, fog sealing and installing centerline rumble strips.
A temporary traffic signal will also be used during daytime operations. Drivers should follow the temporary signal and directions from traffic-control personnel.
Work is scheduled 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with possible weekend work.
The rumble strips are part of NMDOT’s Target Zero initiative, intended to reduce head-on and crossover crashes by warning motorists who drift across the centerline.
The NMDOT District One Deming Patrol was recently repairing damaged guardrail along the I-10 corridor. Most guardrail damage occurs as a result of traffic crashes, and our crews can begin repairs as soon as the necessary supplies are received. In some cases, crashes go unreported, which can delay our ability to identify the damage and respond. Make sure you give crews on the road a little extra room to get this important work done as quickly and safely as they can. (via Facebook)
Luna County
NMDOT crews are awaiting final pavement striping following chip-seal work on:
- Various I-10 frontage roads in the Akela area.
- NM 418, mileposts 10–12, along Old Lordsburg Highway.
Centerline striping may remain absent until the work is completed. Motorists should watch for temporary traffic controls and loose gravel.
I-25 Near Truth or Consequences
Road reconstruction continues along I-25 between mile markers 75 and 85, from Williamsburg to Cuchillo.
Lane closures affect northbound and southbound traffic while crews perform guardrail replacement, milling and paving.
Speed limits are reduced through the work zone.
Contractor working hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with possible weekend work.
US 60 Reopens Between Socorro and Magdalena
US 60 has reopened to passenger vehicles and approved weighted trucks following flooding that damaged the embankment supporting a bridge near mile marker 131.
The highway had been closed after heavy rainfall caused severe erosion near the bridge.
NMDOT reports that oversized and overweight commercial vehicles remain prohibited from using the bridge while repairs continue.
A reduced speed limit of 45 mph remains in effect at the bridge, and the restrictions will continue until further notice.
Drivers should obey posted signs and use caution through the repair area.
