ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico National Guard Soldiers and Airmen joined volunteers Saturday, October 24, for the fourth annual Big Box of Love Food Drive, helping collect nearly $24,000 and more than 200 boxes of donated supplies for low-income seniors and veterans.
The eight-hour event, held at the Albertsons store near Coors Boulevard and Alameda Boulevard in Albuquerque, was organized alongside Big 98.5 FM radio personality Chaz Malibu.
According to the New Mexico National Guard, the drive collected $23,930.11 in monetary donations and 209 Boxes of Love containing nonperishable food, pet food and personal hygiene products.
The Guard has participated in the annual event since its inception four years ago, providing Soldiers and Airmen to support collection efforts and community outreach.
The food drive took place as National Guard personnel continued supporting disaster response operations elsewhere in New Mexico.
