LAS CRUCES — Agriculture, food, family and football will come together Saturday, November 7, as New Mexico State University celebrates its 13th annual Ag Day ahead of the Aggies’ Homecoming football game against Liberty University.
Hosted by the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) and NMSU’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), the event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Pan American Center, ahead of the 6 p.m. kickoff at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

The annual celebration highlights the importance of agriculture to New Mexico’s economy, culture and everyday life, bringing together agricultural organizations, businesses, students and families for an afternoon of educational activities and entertainment.
Visitors can sample New Mexico food products, explore agricultural exhibits and participate in hands-on activities designed to introduce children and adults to farming, ranching and the science behind food production.

Gadsden Independent School District is also encouraging families to attend, promoting the event under the theme “Agriculture is our culture!” The district highlighted games, prizes, educational activities for children and opportunities to enjoy locally produced foods.
“AG Day celebrates what's behind New Mexico agriculture, especially the educational aspect. It's a chance for families and students to learn, connect and enjoy our state's traditions,” said New Mexico Agriculture Secretary Jeff Witte.
Participating organizations will include NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, NMSU Animal and Range Sciences and The Chile Pepper Institute, along with student groups, local agricultural organizations and businesses.

For the College of ACES, the celebration also provides an opportunity to introduce visitors to emerging agricultural technologies, research and career opportunities.
“AG Day allows ACES to showcase how agriculture is evolving. Through hands-on activities and innovation, we're preparing the next generation for a strong future in farming and ranching,” said Jon Boren, interim dean of the College of ACES.
The New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau and Farm Bureau Financial Services are serving as presenting sponsors.
Following the afternoon festivities, the Aggies will face the Liberty University Flames at Aggie Memorial Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
