Heinz will have to share the number “57” for the next 9 months until volleyball season rolls around again because that number represents the third longest active winning streak among high school volleyball programs in the country.

For those who follow prep athletics, it is no surprise that the Las Cruces High School volleyball team has collected quite a bit of “blue” hardware over the past few years. Watching this team play has been one of the most uplifting spectacles in local high school sports. Having witnessed the sportsmanship and pure joy exhibited by these young ladies on the court, their success is completely and wholly credible… and amazing.

High school volleyball: Essex of Vermont, Byron Nelson of Texas lead list of teams with longest win streaks coming out of 2025 season
Story By Kevin Askeland for MaxPreps
Dec 10, 2025
Vermont school has lost only three matches in the program’s history.
The 2025 high school volleyball season is complete and a total of 61 teams head into the 2026 season with win streaks of 20 or more, including a national-best 86 in a row by Essex (Essex Junction, Vt.).
Unlike most of the schools on the list, Essex has compiled its streak over an extended period of time. While the other 60 teams on the list are working on streaks less than two years old, Essex last lost a match in 2019 in the state final.
In fact, since Vermont first sanctioned volleyball in 2016, the Hornets have lost just three matches in 10 seasons. Essex went 17-0 and captured a fifth straight state championship this fall, extending their streak to 86 in a row.
Essex has a 10-game edge over Byron Nelson (Trophy Club, Texas), the No. 1 team in the final MaxPreps Top 25. The Bobcats have won back-to-back state championships with 78 wins in a row.
Three other teams have 50 or more wins. Las Cruces (N.M.) is third with 57 in a row, including back-to-back 27-0 seasons. Meanwhile Carroll (Fort Wayne, Ind.)and Inter-Lakes (Meredith, N.H.) both have 50 in a row.
Essex and Byron Nelson could both climb over 100 straight wins next year, which would put them each among the longest win streaks in history. Only 13 programs have won over 100 games in a row, topped by Sweet Home (Amherst, N.Y.), which won 292 in a row.
