Beginning Sunday, the department’s newly trained park rangers will begin deployment in city parks to enhance safety, visibility and quality of life for residents and visitors.

In November, LCPD graduated four cadets from its Park Ranger Academy. The graduates, Jacob Arman, Crystal Holguin, Joab Lara and Brian Perez, completed a field training program alongside experienced officers before assuming full duties in city parks.
The Park Ranger position was created to address ongoing concerns related to park safety and quality-of-life issues.
LCPD Chief Jeremy Story introduced the Rangers at Friday’s news conference and discussed the program’s goals, training standards and what residents can expect as park rangers begin their work in the community. “It’s great to have everybody out here at the park,” Story began. “You see there’s a bunch of people fishing. There’s a lot of people at the park using it, which is exactly what we want to see and why this program came into being.”
The launch of the Park Ranger Program marks a significant milestone for the City of Las Cruces and reflects a proactive approach to public safety, community engagement and park stewardship.
