As temperatures continue to climb across our broader community, local fire personnel are reminding residents to use caution after responding to multiple calls involving rattlesnakes in and around homes and businesses over the past several days.
According to fire officials, crews have been dispatched to remove and relocate rattlesnakes found both inside structures and in areas immediately surrounding residences and commercial properties.
Rattlesnake encounters are not uncommon during the warmer months, particularly as snakes seek shade, water and shelter from the desert heat. Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings when working outdoors, entering storage areas, moving debris or walking near landscaping and natural vegetation.

Officials stress that anyone who encounters a rattlesnake should not attempt to touch, move, capture or otherwise aggravate the animal. Instead, residents should maintain a safe distance and contact 911. The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority can then dispatch personnel trained to safely remove and relocate the snake.
Fire officials say the safest response is often the simplest: give the animal space and allow trained responders to handle the situation.
