[Original Report]
Albuquerque, NM – The New Mexico State Police is providing an update regarding the fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 25 northbound near Comanche Road in Albuquerque on June 6, 2026.
Since the issuance of the original news release, investigators have obtained and reviewed additional evidence that was not available at the time of the initial investigation. On June 9, 2026, New Mexico State Police became aware of video footage recorded by a witness showing the crash sequence. The witnesses who recorded the video left the scene before New Mexico State Police officers arrived and were therefore not identified or interviewed during the initial on-scene investigation.
The video evidence shows that, at the time the 2013 BMW driven by Danny Sanchez (58) struck the motorcycle operated by Keegan Thomas (24), the motorcycle was already laying down in the number three lane of Interstate 25. The video further shows that Thomas was separated from the motorcycle and laying in the number one lane when the BMW struck it. Based on the available video evidence, Sanchez’s vehicle did not strike Thomas, either while he was operating or on the motorcycle or laying near it.

As a result of this newly obtained evidence and the continuing investigation, the previously announced charge of Homicide by Vehicle against Sanchez has been dismissed. Sanchez remains charged with misdemeanor DWI and Careless Driving. Additional charging decisions will be made in consultation with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
The New Mexico State Police remain committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation and will continue to review all available evidence related to this crash.
This investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Vehicular Crimes Unit.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, has information related to the incident, or possesses dash camera or video footage is encouraged to contact the New Mexico State Police at 505-841-9256.
