SANTA FE — Organizations, food retailers and community groups interested in expanding access to healthy foods in underserved communities are invited to learn more about a new state-supported grant opportunity during an informational webinar on Tuesday, July 1.
The New Mexico Food Pathways Program is seeking letters of interest from organizations and retail enterprises with implementation-ready projects designed to improve food access while strengthening local food retailers. A webinar introducing the program will be held July 1 at 2:30 p.m., the same day the letter of interest period opens.
The program anticipates awarding approximately $500,000 through competitive reimbursement-based grants of $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000. Funding is intended to support projects that expand access to healthy, affordable staple foods while improving the long-term viability of rural, Tribal, frontier and community-based food retailers.
Eligible projects may include refrigeration and cold storage improvements, food safety upgrades, merchandising equipment, expanded capacity to accept SNAP benefits, and other practical investments that strengthen local food systems and improve access to nutritious foods.

Letters of interest will be accepted through July 15. Selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications, which will be due Aug. 5.
The Food Pathways Program complements the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s broader efforts to strengthen the state’s food and agricultural economy. Through initiatives such as the Healthy Food Financing Fund, the department has invested in projects that improve food security while supporting farmers, food processors, distributors and local retailers throughout New Mexico.
Organizations interested in learning more about the Food Pathways Program are encouraged to register for the July 1 informational webinar before submitting a letter of interest.
