Little Store #2 Boosts Local Food Access with New Refrigeration

With support from the Healthy Food Financing Fund, Little Store #2 added refrigeration and produce displays, doubling its capacity to stock local food. Today, produce is the store’s largest department.

In Chaparral, the nearest supermarket is a 15-to-20-minute drive across the Texas state line. So Gilberto Cruz decided his family store could help fill the gap.

With support from the Healthy Food Financing Fund, Little Store #2 added refrigeration and produce displays, doubling its capacity to stock local food. Today, produce is the store’s largest department.
