Upon graduation, each cadet will have successfully completed a 23-week DASO Law Enforcement Academy, which consists of more than 900 hours of rigorous training. Instruction includes New Mexico state law, arrest procedures, mental health and de-escalation techniques, DWI enforcement, physical agility, firearms qualifications, use of force training and other critical skills necessary for the job.

Graduates entering the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office will next complete a 14-week probationary field-training period, working under the supervision of experienced deputies before being assigned full duties within the department.

The DASO academy is one of only eight regional satellite academies authorized by the State of New Mexico. In addition to training its own deputies, the academy is entrusted with certifying officers from surrounding agencies that choose to send personnel for training.

To meet and exceed this responsibility, cadets complete 16 blocks of instruction, including firearms training, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations and physical assessments. While the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy requires a minimum of 677 training hours, the DASO Academy intentionally exceeds this standard to ensure graduates are exceptionally prepared, competent and resilient as they begin their law enforcement careers.

The 30th graduating class of the DASO law enforcement academy is comprised of the following:

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office: Andrew Cox, Danny Hernandez, Anthony Nevarez, Christopher Nuñez, Logan Rooney, Jorge Sanchez, Jacob Sosa, Jesus Torres and Jason Witterstauter

Deming Police Department: Rocco Farano, Lesly Garcia and Xavier Sanchez

Luna County Sheriff’s Office: Marcos Alvarez
